Hills Frisbee Goes International

The Hills Ultimate Frisbee Association (HUFA) is thrilled with the outstanding performance of its members at international championships in August 2010. Rachel Sutton, a William Clarke College Year 10 student, helped her team achieve a commendable 4th place at the World Ultimate Junior Championships in Heilbronn Germany. The Australian team, Terra, narrowly lost to the USA in the semi-final, but were nevertheless very happy with their performance.

Representing Australia for her first time, Rachel Sutton said she was delighted with the result and honoured to be selected on the Australian team. Among her Terra teammates Rachel was joined by her sister, 19 year old Nicky Sutton, a 2009 year 12 graduate of William Clarke College.

The sisters have been developing their Ultimate Frisbee skills at their local Castle Hill league for a number of years. The Frisbee Club has been actively coaching its junior players over this period and is proud of the results. Rachel Sutton was awarded with a HUFA Development Scholarship in July. HUFA President, Simon Farrow, believes the clubs coaching and development strategy has played a significant role in achieving international results.

Another Hills Frisbee player, Liesl Cornell, achieved a gold medal in the under 23 Women’s Division in Florence Italy last month. The under 23s Australian Stingrays beat Canada by one point in the final to secure the World Championship gold, a first for any Australian Ultimate Frisbee team.
